When you choose our respectful footwear, you give your little one space to explore the world with free, secure feet.
We can help you fine-tune size, model and use to suit their stage; tell us how they move and we'll find the pair that supports them best together.
How to tell if respectful kids' footwear truly is respectful
Not everything called "respectful" actually is. For us, a real barefoot shoe for kids must tick every one of these boxes:
- Wide last in the toe area, like a truly wide barefoot kids' shoe, that lets the foot spread without pressure.
- Thin, very flexible sole, that bends easily and lets the foot move in all directions.
- Drop 0 (no heel rise), to keep a natural posture and prevent imbalances.
- Soft or no heel counter, that doesn't immobilize the heel.
- Lightweight, breathable materials, so the foot can breathe and stays dry.
If a kids' shoe doesn't meet these points, it's probably not truly respectful, even if the label says so.
Which respectful footwear to choose for your child's growth stage
Kids' feet change very quickly and need different things at each stage:
- First steps: the ideal is a barefoot kids' shoe that's very light and flexible, almost like going barefoot. Here we look for maximum freedom of movement and a good instep hold to keep it on.
- Exploration stage (nursery and school): they need more durable barefoot kids' shoes, with good protection for playing in the schoolyard, running and climbing, but without losing the wide last or flexible sole.
- Older kids: by now they're developing their own style. At this stage we choose respectful models they can wear day to day and out, without giving up freedom of movement.
In this category you'll find barefoot kids' footwear options designed for every moment, always with the same goal: caring for their feet while they have fun.
How to get the right size in respectful kids' footwear
With growing feet, size matters (a lot). To get it right:
- Measure the foot resting on the floor, from heel to longest toe.
- Add a growth margin: 1 cm is usually recommended.
- Check our size guide and choose the number that leaves that free space in front of the toes.
- Make sure forefoot width is enough: toes should be able to move, not feel "crammed".
If you're between two sizes, it's usually better to pick the one closest to 1 cm of margin, as long as the foot doesn't slide inside the shoe.
Frequently asked questions about respectful footwear for kids
What sets respectful kids' footwear apart from conventional shoes?
Respectful kids' footwear has a wide last, a thin and flexible sole, drop 0 and lightweight materials. Conventional shoes usually have a heel, a narrow toe box and a rigid sole, which limits the foot's natural movement.
At what ages is flexible footwear a good idea?
From the moment your little one starts standing, flexible footwear is the best option. In fact, kids can wear barefoot footwear throughout childhood: the more time spent moving freely, the better the muscle and postural development.
How do I pick the right size as they grow?
Measure the foot every few months, add up to 1.2 cm of margin and check the size chart. The foot needs room to grow, but the shoe shouldn't be loose.
Are they suitable for nursery or outdoors?
Yes. Our models are made for daily action: running, jumping, playing in the schoolyard and the park. They combine a flexible sole with durable materials to keep up with the pace of nursery and school.
