How can you tell if children’s shoes are truly barefoot?

Not everything that is called "respectful" actually is. For us, achildren's barefoot shoemustmeet the following criteria:

  • Wide last inthe toe area, like a truly wide children's barefoot shoe, which allows the foot to spread out without being constricted.
  • Thin, highly flexible sole that bends easily and allows the foot to move in all directions.
  • Zero drop, (no heel), to maintain a natural posture and avoid imbalances.
  • Soft or non-existent counter, which does not immobilize the heel.
  • Lightweight, breathable materials that allow your feet to breathe and prevent moisture buildup.

If children's shoes do not meet these criteria, they are probably not truly barefoot shoes, even if the label says so.

What type of footwear should you choose based on your child's stage of growth?

Children's feet change very quickly and need different things at each stage:

  • First steps: the ideal choice is very light and flexible barefoot shoes for children, almost like going barefoot. Here we are looking for maximum freedom of movement and good support on the instep so that they don't slip off.
  • Exploration stage (preschool and early school): children need more durable barefoot shoes with good protection for playing in the playground, running, and climbing, but without losing the wide last or flexible sole.
  • Older children: they are already looking for their own style. At this stage, we choose respectful models that they can wear both for everyday use and for going out, without sacrificing freedom of movement.

In this category, you will findeco-friendly children's footwear optionsdesignedfor every occasion, always with the same goal in mind: to care for their feet while they enjoy themselves.

How to choose the right size in barefoot children’s shoes?

With growing feet, size matters (a lot). To get it right:

  1. Measure your foot flatonthe floor, from heel to longest toe.
  2. Add a margin for growth: 1 cm is usually recommended.
  3. Check our size guideandchoose the number that leaves that space in front of your toes.
  4. Check that thewidth of the forefootissufficient: the toes should be able to move freely and not be "stuck."

If you are unsure between two sizes, it is usually best to choose the one that is closest to 1 cm, provided that your foot does not "slip" inside the shoe.
